Itinerary

FIRST DAY | CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – CHALLACANCHA – SORAYPAMPA – LAGUNA HUMANTAY – LODGE DEL CIELO

Highlights: Humantay Lake Hike Acclimatization Day “Gentle Hike Day” Very early in the morning we leave Cusco, passing through the towns of Izcuchaca and Limatambo.

After 3 hours of travel from Cusco we arrive at Mollepata, After a light breakfast we continue with the trip in our transport to Challacancha place where we will have the meeting with our muleteer and horses and then start the trek, until we reach our Soraypampa camp, after lunch we will ascend to visit the beautiful lagoon of Humantay, After the visit, we will descend again to Soraypampa until we reach our first camp, where we will have dinner and spend the first night. About our base of Sky Lodge in Soraypampa: Our camp is located 10 minutes walk from the town of Soraypampa, which gives us a great advantage of having a 360° panoramic view of the Humantay lagoon, it is also a perfect place, to appreciate the beauty, landscape of the Andean valley and enjoy the company of our beautiful alpacas.

SECOND DAY | SORAYPAMPA – SALKANTAY PASS – WAYRACPUNKU – COLLPAPAMPA – LODGE DEL CIELO

After breakfast, we will start the most difficult part of the trek, walking through the site known as Pampa Salkantay. Then we will take the left side of the Salkantay glacier. Around noon, we will reach the highest point of the imposing snow-capped Salkantay located over 4,630 m (15,190 feet), we will be able to appreciate all the majesty of the area, its chain of mountains, glaciers and ravines, we will feel the magic of the Andes, after a rest we will begin the slow descent to Wayracmachay, where we will have lunch and a well-deserved rest. We will continue descending and enter the jungle brow where we will have indescribable views of the place. Finally we will have dinner and spend the second night here.

DAY THREE | COLLPAPAMPA – LORETA LA PLAYA – LUCMABAMBA – COCCALMAYO – LODGE DEL CIELO

After a delicious breakfast, we will set off on our trek along the Inca Trail Network. This day will be unforgettable, we will continue with the walk through the jungle, we will appreciate the flora and fauna of this area, especially the coffee, tea, passion fruit plantations, trees, the climate is temperate and humid in this area, so a favorable microclimate has been formed for the production of orchids that due to their colors and varieties have been cataloged by experts as the most beautiful in the world, On our way out from Loreta to Lucmabamba it is advisable to take a car to avoid the dust of the road, we continue from Lucmabamba to Coccalmayo about 1 hour and a half of travel, we will continue with the walk until we reach the hydroelectric station, where we will have lunch and after a short rest we will continue with the walk on the side of the railroad until we reach the town of Aguas Calientes. Finally we will have dinner and
accommodation at the lodging.

FOURTH DAY | LUCMABAMBA - LLACTAPATA - AGUAS CALIENTES - HYDROELECTRIC - AGUAS CALIENTES

Very early, immediately after breakfast at the Lodging we will go by bus to the citadel of Machupichu through a mountain range of Machupichu for the span of half an hour, we continue from Lucmabamba to hydroelectric for 6 hours where we will have lunch and the restaurant is in charge of sending the suitcases to the train at 16:00pm, we continue to the access point and entry control Machupichu.

After a guided tour of approximately 2 hours we will have free time to take photos and in coordination with the guide we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes. We will board the train back to Ollantaytambo where the transport awaits us to take us back to Cusco, finally we will drop you off at your respective hotel.

  • Pre-departure information: You will meet your Salkantay guide and group at our office
    for an orientation prior to your trek. At this time, we will provide you with the duffel
    bags that our horses will carry. The meeting will be at 6:00 PM the afternoon before
    the trip begins. In case you are unable to come at this time “let us know” to arrange
    another time.
  • Tourist Transportation: We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco in the morning
    and you will travel by private transportation to Challacancha, the starting point of the

    and 2, our mules/horses carry all camping equipment and your personal luggage.

  • Boiled Water: From your first lunch to your last breakfast, Inka Trail Expedition will

    carrying around 3L of value. We will refill our waters at every meal.
  • Waking up with tea: Every morning at the camp, you’ll wake up with a cup of coca tea!
    Our staff will bring the tea to your tent to warm up from the inside out before you

  • Tea time every day during the trek: Every evening before dinner, the cooks will give

Huayna Picchu reaches 2,720 m / 8,924 ft, but consists of an almost vertical ascent with much more extreme and narrow trails. On the other hand, Machu Picchu Mountain reaches 3,000 m/9843 ft, almost 650 meters above the citadel. The path to the summit of this mountain is less demanding than Huayna Picchu, has a wider trail and can be done by anyone.
